under cabinet ice maker 95 troubleshooting what tells solenoid to open uline

Topic: U-LINE Ice Maker model 95
Posted By: eldondo on 04/02/xi 01:29pm I have the above mentioned ice maker. Having recently spoken with the nearly recent owner before me, he says it freezes hard but the ice maker doesn't work. Came in a 94 motorhome. Can this be rehabilitated? Are parts available? I looked on the uline web site and it would seem it is an out of date model. What do ya think. The literature says it'll brand a one thousand cubes a day. I like that!
Posted Past: chastho on 04/02/eleven 01:37pm The most mutual problem with them is corrosion and micro switches. The but way to tell is to take it apart and expect. If information technology freezes and zip else information technology is possible it could be the motor. I recall I still have some parts at home but I won't be in that location for some other month. If you don't accept it going in 30 days PM me and I volition see what I take.

We don't apply ours as a ice maker. Keep the cat food in it. Only know of others who apply it every bit a small freezer.

Just, as one fellow RVer told usa, "When y'all take the power to make 25 lbs water ice per day, you are no longer just camping!" We at present can not imagine being without it.

No thread hijack intended, simply are you talking well-nigh converting the Uline to a $40/50 icemaker? If so, I'd definately be interested in that info. . .

Posted By: eldondo on 06/twenty/11 01:55pm Update of update. Never really did get to working right. Motor/mold gone bad. Called U-line, chosen supplier, have a new motor/mold assy on the style.
Posted Past: wa8yxm on 06/20/xi 05:17pm As for Parts: There are 2 common ice makers used in home Freezer/Fridges.

One is far more than common than the other.. That i is, of form, the U-line.

And for the most part... You demand not pay too much attention to the specific model,

The only thing that may be unlike is .. My RV unit has a custom base of operations plate,, 3 (I recollect) screws and it comes off and bolts to a new one if needed.

Oh, if the problem turns out to exist a bad solenoid, (220 bucks at Camping world equally I recall) you tin use virtually whatever 120 volt fridge solenoid (Amana 22 bucks from an E-bay dealer and it'due south a amend unit to kick)

It at present works perfectly, making nice size half moon shaped cubes. Information technology will fill up the bin to the shutoff betoken in less than twenty four hours and that is quite a lot of ice. The information I received hither was virtually helpful. This forum is soooo informative and entertaining!

Read in another post it is possible to utilize a diffrent icemaker, withal there was something mentioned about the uline unit of measurement turning at 3 rpm and domicile units turn at 1 rpm. Less ice and there was a concern of adding besides much water but I dont know ? I only ordered the one above... sometimes you just have to bite the bullet.

Posted By: rchonly on 04/03/11 09:36am I plant all the info I needed and the parts to repair my Model BI95 at the U-Line website listed in the above posted comments. Go there and download the operating transmission for your unit yous'll become the manuals for three different units the Model BI95, BI98 and the SP98 all in ane printout. Which is not confusing in the least.

So phone call them,( Tech support 800-779-2547 or 414-831-2131 Judy Wustrak ) she will walk yous thru whatever problems yous're facing, they were well-nigh helpful. I had to supercede the "Water Solenoid" and a broken "Door". The parts are all available fifty-fifty dorsum as far every bit my 1991 U-Line Model BI95.

Obviously most of the the parts are pretty generic and have not changed over the years. She referred me to a vendor visitor www.APDepot.com to order the parts I needed. They too were most helpful and prompt with shipping.

Over all it was a lot cheaper than buying a new one and it works just fine.

Posted By: Tinstar on 04/02/11 08:35pm OK, for those of y'all that are interested, here's a copy of the email exactly equally I received it. Bear in mind, I have not tried the conversion just I see no reason why information technology wouldn't piece of work.

This was from member Nuke-E and I don't know if he still posts on here or not.
He was a new fellow member from NC when he posted it.

Well, I finally got effectually to replacing the icemaker (not the whole freezer unit, merely the icemaker). The pigment on the water ice cube mold had been flaking off, and the filler had a crack that caused water to drip into the bin--turning the cubes into 1 large cake over a few weeks fourth dimension.

This mail describes the process (peculiarly the wiring) necessary to retrofit a standard, off-the-shelf ice maker from Lowes into the U-Line freezer.

The obvious: turn off/unplug the water ice maker before starting.

Remove the plastic encompass on the front of the icemaker, and remove the three screws property the metallic plate in place. Pull information technology forward and you'll see all of the wiring, the timing cam, motor, etc. This plate also holds the bin switch arm; the arm will be loose after you pull the plate out. Five wires are of interest here--two power wires, a ground, one for the water solenoid, and one for the freezer's thermostat. Disconnect/cut these 5 wires--they're the ones that go as a grouping to the back of the chiffonier.

Here'south the function that actually took me the longest to figure out: how to physically remove the icemaker. There are a total of five bolts that need to be removed. Two are hard to come across, but pretty easy to figure out if you look at the new icemaker. They hold the icemaker to the side wall of the cabinet. The other 3 are smaller (1/4" socket) and screw in to the icemaker from the lesser. Subsequently all of these are out, it still isn't going to be loose--information technology'll be held to the mounting shelf with a thermal paste/gum. Carefully pry it loose, trying not to bend the shelf any more than than yous have to--the shelf is actually part of the refrigerant loop, so try not to scrape off paint and don't put any holes in it. Once you've separated the icemaker from the shelf, pull information technology straight forward. The probe for the thermostat slides into a metal tube mounted to the ice cube mold; don't bend it whatsoever more than you need to.

At present is a proficient time to practice whatever cleaning, if you want to.

Electric Fun: U-Line, to their credit, links the compressor to the ice maker, so that it isn't working to cool the cabinet while the mold heater is trying to release new ice cubes. A normal icemaker doesn't have this function, and information technology'll work fine without it. Only the thermostat needs to know what's going on--it'll demand connected to neutral for the compressor to run at all. Otherwise, the wiring is pretty straightforward. My only caution at this point is to make sure that wire colors are consistent (or look at the diagram to friction match functions) with what I describe. If everything matches, here's how to mate the new ice maker:

Cabinet --> NEW ICEMAKER
Black --> Blackness (line)
Brown --> Yellow (water solenoid)
White (neutral) & Xanthous (thermostat) --> Blue (neutral)
Blood-red (thermostat) --> Zero--cap off
G/Y --> Chiliad/Y (ground)

I've left the temperature probe for the thermostat loose underneath/beside the new icemaker. Y'all may have to adjust the thermostat to get back to tiptop ice cube production, but it'southward not a big deal.

When I get a chance (probably this weekend), I'll add some pictures to this description. If anything isn't clear, permit me know and I'll try to analyze it

Posted By: Tinstar on 04/02/xi 08:47pm But as a follow-up to my above post. I've replaced the actual water ice maker in my U-Line cabinet. It's not hard to do, but I pulled the U-Line out in the flooring and changed everything. The U-Line ice maker was very expensive compared to an off the shelf model (which probably works as well if non improve). I really don't like the quality of the tray of the U-Line model. They only last about 2 years. I recollect the wiring is the main difference between the U-Line brand and an off the shelf model.

If anyone tries this before me, I'd appreciate a shout out with how information technology worked out and what brand yous used. OR any other helpful info.

Posted By: dougrainer on 04/03/11 08:04am Uline makes 2 Icemakers. The RV icemaker (op RV model) does not accept the defrost option. The other Abode model does have the defrost option and costs a LOT more than. When you take an older Uline(more than 5 years old), it is NOT a adept idea to try to repair/replace the Bin switches or any individual office in the Motor mechanism. The moisture and rust will have taken its toil on most of the internal switches and motor. The BEST way is to supersede the Motor/Mold mechanism which is what Tinstar did I believe. When you take a mold that has flaked or deterioated, it is NOT really the mistake of the Unline production. It is the fault of using RV antifreeze and leaving it in the mold or difficult water that has "eaten" the lining of the mold. WHY people install RV antifreeze in the icemaker mold is across me, the mold is designed for freezing[emoticon] The uline is different from dwelling house icemakers in that it has a mechanical tstat that senses the temp of the mold and that volition eject the ice. That is why the Ulines volition out produce regular icemakers. Yous tin gear up up the ULine to eject about every 35 minutes. Home Icemakers accept nearly 180 minutes. So, if no water ice ejection, yous need to check the 3 wires at the Tstat which is on the forepart of the icemaker. Doug
Posted By: JohnQ on 04/08/eleven 04:04pm I have the same U-Line icemaker in my Safari, a model 95. The prior owner was captious regarding documentation and equally such, I have the transmission (it also covers a couple of the other U-line models). The very outset time I used information technology was terminal twelvemonth on a trip around Utah. Turned it on, could hear it cycle, got freezing common cold (froze a bottle of h2o solid overnight). Everything seemed to exist working except that it would Non brand cubes. When all else fails, RTFM, an acronym from my time in the service. The manual states to remove the lower plastic encompass to expose the cooling fins and temperature adjustment screw. Make clean the dust bunnies from the cooling fins. And then the manual states to turn Upwardly the adjustment to warmer. Sounded BasaAckwards to me at the time, but I OBEYED since I RTFM'ed about a quarter plow. In near xv minutes I heard the tinkle of ice cubes falling into the tray. The showtime batch of about 8 or and then were kind of deplorable and I tossed them, simply subsequent batches tinkled right on time every fifteen minutes like clockwork. I have learned that after turning it off and the coach sitting for a while, I have to echo the turn upward the adjustment screw routine. The manual did not say to turn the screw back to colder afterward the cubes outset falling but I exercise that anyway merely then I tin can readjust the next time out. Another U-Line Icemaker Factoid (at least in my Safari), it will operate going down the road on inverter merrily tinkling ice cubes.

Posted Past: KarenInTheWoods on 04/12/11 07:53pm Our motor on the Uline icemaker was rusted up when we got our used 1996 Safari. The water ice box was chilling nicely then nosotros but called Uline, and ordered a new motor unit. Virtually $fifty plus shipping. Changed it over, about 6 or vii wire nut connections and information technology works Bang-up!

She also suggested to drill holes along the bottom edge of the trivial plastic box that covers the motor, it allows more than circulation to permit the gears dry out off in betwixt uses.

Be certain when you are washed using it, leave the door ajar so it dries out.

Posted By: eldondo on 05/28/11 08:30pm Merely wanted to add an update. Slowly merely surely (accent on slowly)I accept been checking things out on my motorhome. Did a bunch of stuff today including but not restricted to hooking it up to h2o and turning on the ice maker. The previous owner or the dealer probably, had put antifreeze in information technology. First bunch of ice fabricated was slush and slop, gradually getting more formed to resemble Ice CUBES !!!!!!! Yes indeed, RTFM. The warmer you set information technology, the faster it makes water ice! Going out to check once more! I love my motorhome!!!
